The Early Days

By the age of 25, Alf had become a household name among Claremont Speedway fans, admired for his fearless driving style and competitive spirit. His family played a significant role in his racing life, with his son Troy and daughter Mia as his biggest supporters, cheering him on from the sidelines.

One of his most notable achievements came in 1987, at the age of 45, when he claimed victory in the inaugural round of the World Series Sprintcars at Claremont Speedway. This win was a testament to his enduring talent and competitive edge, even against younger challengers.

Barbagallo’s record speaks volumes about his prowess on the track. He holds the distinction of being the all-time winningest driver at Claremont Speedway, with an impressive 79.5 feature race victories. This unique tally includes a memorable dead heat with Ray Geneve on November 27, 1970. Additionally, he set a record for the most feature wins in a season on eight separate occasions, a feat unmatched by his peers.
