Lotus unveils Evora 400 – their fastest road car of the New Millennium

Lotus has taken the wraps off the Evora 400: the fastest production Lotus ever. Delivering this power is an exquisite 400 brake horsepower. 3.5-litre supercharged V6, 24 valve, water cooled, all aluminium engine. And despite its luxurious cabin displaying many new features, the Evora 400’s overall kerbweight has been reduced by 22kg over its forebear. Its lightweight chassis has also been lowered and widened to make cockpit entry and exit to the 2+2 composite body easy. As a result, its exquisite power to weight ratio, combined with an aerodynamic package that maintains zero lift but increases downforce at high speeds, simply enhances its supercar appeal.

The Evora 400 is Lotus’s fastest model, worthy of supercar status. It is stylishly attractive, beautifully designed, yet purposefully aerodynamic. From its aggressive new front cooling intakes, past the fascinating lateral graphics, to its more prominent rear, 5-blade airflow diffuser and new three-element tail spoiler, it is every inch the purpose-built supercar.

Select the first of the its six, close-ratio, manual gears and the acceleration is viscerally exciting. The automatic version’s performance is sharpened by the Race setting in the Dynamic Performance Management system. Both models achieve acceleration of 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds. Because it is a Lotus, the Evora 400 features ‘zero-lift’, although the aero package increases downforce by 23kg at V-max, to make more efficient use of its immensely capable road manners.

The brand new cockpit features ultra-lightweight sports seats in a configuration with Isofix in the rear. Lotus’s racing lineage is continued with magnesium-alloy, leather-wrapped steering wheel with racing line indicator, pushbutton start and a fully revised, ergonomic dashboard layout. Drive comfort is enhanced with heated seats and air-conditioning, Alpine audio with full Sat Nav and integrated Sub-Woofer, plus a reversing camera and rear parking sensor.

The Evora 400’s standard interior trim includes black twin stitching, an instrument panel surround finished in aluminium, leather trimmed seats with technical fabric inserts, aluminium finished door release levers and grab handles, a steering wheel trimmed in black leather with red leather position stripe and finished in matte black with aluminium bezels. A range of optional packs are available to add further customisation.
