The new Maserati GranTurismo has taken the grand tourer to the next level by combining luxury and performance with new levels of technology, build quality and reliability.
Maserati have gone back to the 1947 A6 GranTurismo for inspiration but brought the styling and technology up to date. Some of the styling details can be seen in the more recent Maserati models, for example a wedged profile similar to the Coupe and fender vents borrowed from the Quattroporte.
At the GT’s front end adaptive xenon headlights are featured and at the rear of the vehicle full LED lights include indicator and main brake lights.
The GranTurismo has been modified from the architecture of the Quattroporte but shortened in the wheelbase and length-still it has a wheelbase measuring 116.1 inches which is longer than the Audi A8.
To enhance the feeling of comfort the GT utilizes the Skyhook electronically controlled adaptive damping system which creates a comfortable ride when cruising and a firm but controlled ride when driven enthusiastically.
The longer wheelbase allows the for both the engine and the cabin to be placed further back, balancing the weight distribution and allowing space for four adults to travel in comfort.
The interior is thickly padded with leather and with ten colours of Poltona Frau Italian leather and various shades of carpet, and styles of metal and wood trim, the GranTurismo can be customized in dozens of different ways to suit the customer.
Most can be made of the luggage space by purchasing a custom made set of luggage, by Salvatore Ferragamo, the five pieces of luggage fit beautifully in the boot, if the space is not already taken up by the two sets of golf clubs that will also fit there!

The 4.2litre engine provides 298 horsepower and 460nm of torque, 75% of peak torque is available from just 2,500 rpm.
The GT is available with a 6-speed automatic transmission only, equipped with Alcantara lined paddles in place of the sequential “Cambiocorsa” or “Duo select” gearbox.
This provides a smooth change and shifts quickly loosing less power compared to other transmissions. The gearbox is distinctive in that no other automatic gearbox can cope with such high engine speeds.
The Granturismo is built with a torque converter but is still capable of accelerating from 0-100kph in 5.2 seconds and it has a top speed of 284kph.
Production volumes will be limited but with Maserati's reputation for excellence, GranTurismo is sure to prove a winner in the luxury Grand Touring class of vehicles it represents.
GRANTURISMO
The Maserati GranTurismo is the first modern, two-door, four-seater coupé that delivers much more than its sensual beauty initially suggests. Pininfarina's latest creation was destined for greatness right from its debut at the 2007 Geneva Motorshow. The car can trace its heritage right back to the very first GranTurismo produced by Maserati, the 1947 A6 1500 GT Pininfarina and it also incorporates the innovation and impact of the Birdcage 75th, the futuristic concept car that, in 2005, suggested the lines for future Maserati models .
For over sixty years Maserati has been a leading constructor of luxury automobiles. The marque is renowned for its high performance, comfort and overall safety. The GranTurismo does not stray from this tradition thanks to its distinct personality, its perfect blend of power and elegance, its adventurous design and surprising practicality.
The muscular and aerodynamic shape has been carefully studied down to the smallest details and is the fruit of extensive wind tunnel testing. This build quality is continued in the mechanical components: the V8 engine has all the characteristics of a competition-level power unit. It was developed to respond instantly to the accelerator and reward with previously unheard of driving pleasure.
The GranTurismo scores top marks when it comes to style, technology and craftsmanship, characteristics that have been recognised by its winning of numerous international ‘Best Car’ awards. This is testimony to the competence, professionalism and attention to detail that makes each Maserati truly unique.

The increased torque, mostly felt at low-mid range, together with the six-speed automatic gearbox, brings out the car’s true GT spirit. As on the GranTurismo S, the brakes are provided by Brembo. The Brembo brakes feature six piston callipers on the front clasping exceptional dual-cast discs, a setup where the cast iron rotors and aluminium hubs are cast as a single piece to lower weight but still deliver consistent performance even at high working temperatures.
On board comfort reaches its peak with the Skyhook damping system, standard with the GranTurismo Automatic, that adjusts automatically according to the road conditions.
