The show-stopping new Jaguar XJ has arrived. But how has it been judged by the most critical audience of all – the motoring pundits?
Rarely does a new motor car unite the world’s critics in praise. Yet this revolutionary design – the bold re-imagining of an icon – has been an unmitigated hit with reviewers.
EXTERIOR DESIGN
Jaguar cars have always been renowned for their elegant, sporting lines. The all new XJ, with its fluid, contemporary style, is the boldest interpretation yet of Design Director Ian Callum’s vision for Jaguar in the 21st century.
The all new XJ’s beauty is much more than skin-deep: it is constructed using Jaguar’s aerospace-inspired aluminium body technology, which makes the XJ the lightest car in its class. Its panoramic glass roof, an integral part of the design concept, gives the car a lower, more streamlined roofline, while dramatically enhancing the feeling of light and space inside.
Standard and long-wheelbase models are available from launch. The long-wheelbase offers an even more sumptuous and refined environment for rear seat passengers, with an extra 125mm of legroom. However, creating an extended XJ doesn’t mean compromising dynamic ability, as Mike Cross, Jaguar’s Chief Engineer, Vehicle Integrity, explain:
“The difference in actual weight between the two cars is just 20kg. And any extra weight is compensated first by the XJ’s rear air springs, which can maintain a constant ride height, and secondly by the Adaptive Dynamics suspension with its constantly variable damping.

INTERIOR DESIGN
The XJ’s beautifully appointed cabin and architecturally-inspired interior set new standards in contemporary luxury.
Reflecting Jaguar’s approach to luxurious ‘personal space’, ten different wood veneers are available, all chosen to create a clean, contemporary appearance. Alternatively, the sporting aspect of the cabin’s character can be emphasised with carbon fibre veneer, an option for those who prefer a more technical ambience.
The leather of the seats features twin-needle stitching. Visually seductive, this complex stitching delivers a feeling of true elegance and style, but in a modern way. In fact, sumptuous leather is used extensively throughout the cabin – more than in any previous Jaguar.

SERIES LINE-UP
The All New XJ comes in three exciting trim levels, with the choice of four new engines.
XJ Premium Luxury – Available in standard or long wheelbase, with either the formidable 3.0 litre V6 diesel with sequential turbochargers, which marries tremendous drive with superb efficiency, or the smooth and responsive 283kW naturally-aspirated 5.0 litre V8 petrol engine.
XJ Portfolio – Available in standard wheelbase only, and powered by the exciting naturally aspirated 5.0 litre V8 engine or the superb new 346kW Supercharged 5.0 litre V8.
XJ Supersport – Heading the line-up, and available in standard and long wheelbase, the XJ Supersport is powered by Jaguar’s new flagship engine, the supremely powerful supercharged 375kW 5.0 litre V8.
