Christmas is a time of generosity, kindness and hope. Right now, after another incredibly tough year in Australia – and across the world – all of us need these precious things more than ever.
Since 2014, Land Rover has stood with Australian Red Cross through some of Australia’s toughest times – Land Rover was there to help when individuals and communities needed it most. Join us in supporting the Red Cross this Christmas.
Give the gift of a good mate this Christmas
“They [said] ‘Would you like to meet her?’ I’d say from then on, we clicked. I went and spent Christmas with her family. It’s just lovely,” says 90-year-old Val. For two years, Red Cross volunteer Allie has been visiting Val, who lives alone in an aged care home.
In between visits and outings, the pair chat on the phone almost every day – catching up on their favourite reality TV shows and sharing stories. “We’re very similar in our sense of humour and we’re quite open about things. It was a perfect match,” says Allie.
Studies have found just over half (54%) of people reported feeling more lonely since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Every day, Red Cross teams across Australia visit and phone people struggling with loneliness and social isolation, helping them build friendships and a community of their own.
Give the gift of healing this Christmas by supporting the Tiwi Islands.
“We’ve got children, we’ve got mothers, we’ve got aunties. They’re on the veranda listening to Tiwi music, to people talking and laughing and having a good time,” says Tiwi Regional Manager, Kevin Doolan. “[The parent and baby program] connects with families, it connects with children … we can see it working.”
On the remote Tiwi Islands, off the coast of Darwin, we walk with the community as they heal from the devastating impacts that colonisation and discrimination have had on their social, economic, cultural and spiritual lives. Our headquarters – where we run programs like the parent and baby support group – is a welcoming community centre hub celebrating and empowering an ancient living culture.
